there was this discussion back in 2006 I hope MFK'ers can update us to pick up in current times.

there was a lot of feedback & discussion - many had poor experiences, a few didn't. so if wondering MFK'ers have any feedback for us here. no need to read all their postings you'll get the gist from the get go.

HI all,
I have been hearing of possible reactions by discus to Prazi products... Not anything concrete at this point but there does appear to be some Risks under some conditions for its use...Not sure what these are yet but I thought we might talk about it..

If you have had any problems with medications containing praziquantel..please share them here in as much detail as you can..

Thanks,
al
thks for taking the time. sushiray

I dont think so. the fish might have been past the point of not return. It does work by indusing muscle spasims that kill the parasite

I've never had a problem with it; I have used it a few times as Jungle Parasite Clear, and I've used it as Jungle medicated fish food . . . on those occasions, it cured the problem w/o harming the fish (as far as i could tell) . . . at a minimum, I've never lost a fish while using it . . .

I think part of the problem is most praziquantel products contain several other ingredients (flagyl being one of them which is controversial in iteslf). How on earth would the Discus owners have been able to tell WHAT caused their problems? When you're already treating a sick fish you really can't say it was the meds that hurt them :screwy: or even made them worse. Praziquantel in and of itself is very safe and has been well tested for years in all animals.

Every new fish I get has a prazi treatment while in quarantine.

And 95% of my fish are wild caught very fragile characins. And they will get a sickness if you look at them wrong.

But since I started the prazi and fungus treatments while in quarantine I have not had a issue in quite sometime.

And never had a issue I thought was related to prazi, its good stuff.

I've used it in the form of Prazi pro, and it was effective and never had any related complications either

Prazi is one of the safest dewormers we have. Really effective on flukes and tapeworms. I've used it on discus in the past with excellent results. To use Prazi safely, you need to have clean water in the tank, and relatively clean filters. It seems prazi and nitrate don't mix well. It's also not recommended to mix other meds with prazi on water quality sensitive fish like discus. Discus keepers have reported problems in the past using prazi cocktails containing other meds. Juvenile plecos have also been killed when using a prazi cocktail containing metro, while adults remained unharmed. I would highly recommend anyone planning on using a combo med containing prazi to use caution.
