Hey guys,

I'm about to buy a pre-made stand for my 125g. I had always assumed that the big stands used a solid piece of wood across the top. This stand basically is a ring with the center being open. Its made for a normal 72x18" 125 or 150g tank, and it real wood, so I figure it was structurally sound. Is this normal on pre-mades?

Just a lil concerned with the 8 -10" open expanse in the middle. I'll use foam along the frame to set the tank on.

Thanks!

Howdy,

I had the same concerns with the stand for my 220 gal. Same design of the stand, basically a rectangular barrel without lid. It's been standing there now for about 1 year ...

I have to admit, though, that I re-inforced the "barrel" with more vertical boards. Still, the 220 gal rests on its outer rims only.

ive heard that for acrillic tanks you need a full bottem. Thats what the owner or my lfs told me when I picked up my plexi 135

Yeah those stands that reinforces the outer edges only should only be used for glass tank. If your using the same stand for acrylic tank then I wouldn't recommend it since it will bow out where it is not supported.

yup... glass can b open
