Saw a short snippet on Facebook about a guy named Hubert Duprat who took some Caddis flies and provided them with gold flake and semi precious stones and the result is quite amazing in my opinion. The feedback alone on the article and the people wanting to purchase them, especially if they were made into jewelry had me thinking. Any one know how hard it would be to keep these guys through a life cycle? It probably wouldn't be too hard to just grow the larvae stage large enough to turn to flies, I'm sure a well seeded tank with algae would be sufficient. When the larvae turn to flies, can be used as a nutritious treat for our fish (a trout favorite). I know a little about these guys from fly fishing, but no idea on keeping them, going to do some research tomorrow but wanted to share. ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1384418103.067427.jpg

I don't know much about them but I've heard of the larvae and their protective cases...Interesting idea there....won't see those in some pawn shop.

I think they might be interesting to keep as well, the aquatic larval stage takes months to a year where they forage or predate for various foods. Apparently some species even weave a net out of silk to trap passing debris.
