If you have seen my other thread you will understand why im asking this. I have just got a uk cheque for 500 pounds which is around $1000 so im going to buy a setup of around 90-120gals after having your advice in my other thread.

I am interested in predators and would like something that i can keep solo or as a small group ]for the next few years. the tank is most likely going to be 48x24x18 or 48x24x24 if i get a great deal.

what would you suggest i like midwater swimming and active so wolffish are out i suppose.

african pikes are very mean and beautiful patterns on them plus im pretty sure they'll school a bit. yellow-tail barracudas have really big teeth and are cool to watch eat. a pack of piranah's are really active.

snakeheads are interesting but ive heard they can break the glass when attacking prey is this true. I was thinking odoe pike, redtail barracudas or maybe a young atf are any of these possible?

feel free to shoot me down and give me better ideas.

dats are a great show fish but they grow so slow and dont want to buy one and grow it and then it die on me!

I would have thought dorado were too big, i also thought atf grow slowly but if someone wants to correct me go ahead. Im thinking odoe pike or barracudas unless someone suggests a perfect fish i cant refuse

Barracudas are awesome, but extremely boring if you don't have anything else in the tank. They spend the day hovering. No action, no active swimming. They don't "school" either.

My suggestion? a lot of the larger community fish - kissing gouramis, Moonlight gouramis, snakeskin gouramis, etc... They are predators, they just don't eat fish ;)

i have had a lot of community fish in my time and im getting sick of that 'noahs ark' look and would prefer a showy tank of one species and i havent kept really predatory stuff before.
