Predatory characin suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
may i have some suggestions on what i should be keeping next? Im currently keeping a 13" gatf, 13" payara (armatus), 11" golden dorado (brasiliensis), and a 12" wolf fish (malabaricus) in a 350 gallon tank. I was thinking of getting an odoe pike but their short lifespan is kinda making me not want to get them + i read about their max size in captivity is only about 12". Any fish that will max around 24" is okay. Thanks!
How long have you had this group together and do you plan on keeping them in the 350 for life?

Honestly, I'd not risk adding any new predators to this setup. If you've got these guys working together, you've already accomplished something special.

I've never really had any fish injur each other really.. the fighting just kinda gets old after a while.. my BATF constantly bothers my goliath and the goliath almost never fights back. I feel bad for the fish most of the time..

Got any pics of that BATF?

Whenever I see someone claim to have a BATF, I always want to learn more about it because there have been so incredibly few in the hobby, only four that I know of.

That being said, you do have something special there, but it's not brevis. That fish looks to be about 12", yes? It's a very nice specimen. I've taken your pics and highlighted the diagnostic traits that tell what it is.

So is it vitatus ?

Nope. I was hoping you'd go off to the sticky and try to decode it lol. I'm always trying to teach folks.

It's a FATF, and one of the largest ones I've ever seen.

Honestly I didn't think there was a difference in BATF or FATF..I haven't looked at the Id section in like 5 years maybe I know we are always finding out more..

I bought him at like 3 inches as a vitatus and then put him on here and people said he was FATF..he is actually still growing .. I've noticed him get fat recently
