Predatory instinct?

So I've had my bass when he was only about two inches and now he is 10. Before whenever I do water change he would go into submission but today when I tried doing waterchange he attacked me and also the siphon I was wondering is that the reason or is it because he's hungry or is his adulthood is starting to matured ?He is the only fish in tank and had 2 nightcrawlers 2 days bedoee

My big Cichla don't care at all any more about water changes, they play eat and everything during a change. Not like the young ones.
