What is the Preferred Medication for Treating Catfish?

For Parasites? the concessional weird slime? and everything in between? I know being scaleless they take to some meds more harshly. But my Gulper over like 8 months has gone through a few issues.

It's really a hassle sometimes.

the slim coat is not always parasites i have seen with my cats that thay do it if thay dont like the water. test your water or just do some water changes and it should help. as for meds half dose the tank with most meds and thay should be ok

If there is not even a guess at a diagnosis, I'd not treat or not go beyond a prophylactic dosage. Gulpers are sensitive to chemicals, more so than many others, such as pims, bagrids, clariidae, pangasiidae, etc.

Gulpers come from very soft, acidic water and don't do well in alkaline and/or hard water.

Well He's now getting a slightly cloudy/discoloration or his right eye.

His water has been spot on 6.0 and I use lots of driftwood/black water extract and amazon rain water softer supplement.

Any ideas? I've found treated silver sides with Metro is best since he eats them. He's never stopped eating ever either. He's ferocious as ever but since Hurricane Sandy and the power outages it's been rough getting him back to normal.

Thanks.

Yes thankfully the gulper always passed. All stool is normal, eating is normal, and the white string like stuff stopped, no bloat, swelling, or anything else offf other than this newly clouded eye. Just ate last night again, too.

Clouded eye may be due to many things. I think and hope he will get through it without help, especially if you continue trying your best to keep his water right, stable, and pristine.

I wonder if, should hopefully heal him up, and sell him. I do have hard 7.8ph tap water. But I do everything in my power to make this optimal. I have a 50gal garbage bucket for WC/ I have a submersible pumper and all. I treat the 50g batch to make it 6.4 or So when I add it to the remaining 6.0 tank I'ts only estimated a .2 change and with the driftwood and black-water extract I do my best and it usually a constant 6.0 when I check. I also have the tap water conditioner, seachem buffer for lowering the ph and Amazon rain to soften the water further.

But if with all that he's still sustainable from these thing I don't know what to do. I went to specialty shop I deal with and he said try a 3/4 dose of Prazi-Pro and WC every 4 day for 2 weeks. I'll give it a whirl. Gulper still eating like a boss though and stool is normal color/shape. He actually polished off 20 BA Tetras in a night no less than a week ago. I've kept a Pesudoryas Niger, Multiple Giraffe Cat, Channels, Bulls ect with no issues, and while I know the Gulper is a special, it's natural environment is pretty crappy so I would figure I'm doing an ok job of giving him what he needs. With all the rewards this hobby has it has it's fair share of headaches as well.

It's a lot of work and I feel your pain, brother. These are some of the reasons I have never owned a gulper, so all I could say is from what I read. From all you said - consistent non-life-threatening troubles as long as you had him - I could only speculate that even though you do your best, it's not enough, perhaps especially in the water parameters stability. For instance, a change in pH of 1 means a 10-fold change in the concentration of H+ cation. It's a logariphmic scale. A pH change of 0.2 can be close to a 2 times change in the H+ concentration. I imagine an abrupt change like that can stress a cat enough for it to start shedding some slime, etc.

What do you exactly mean when you say their natural water is bad... because I don't think so... ?

Traditionally black water environments while stable ph and hardiness are murky at times and often not the highest in oxygen content.

Ill keep at it an weigh my options. I'd rather him have a stable home than be my prize eating machine haha.
