I just set up another 75gal for a goldsaum and a couple sajica/cons that survived a spawning in the community tank and have used pool filter sand / all purpose sand as the substrate.
I have a Penguin 330 and a 350 on the tank and am looking for a sponge prefilter that will fit over the squarish intakes of these filters.
Finding one to fit over the AC110 round intake was easy, but what do you all use for the Pengiuns??

Thanks,
Burt :)

try getting a piece of the foam used for the premade prefilters and just cut a hole in it and cram it on if u can't find anything.

You need to be very careful about restricting the intakes on the penguin's. The emporer's drive the bio-wheels with a spray bar and an auxillery pump but the penguin's rely on the flow of the output. Any reduction (I know from years of expierance here.) in the flow will cause the bio-wheels to stall. Even a few small bits of plant material in the pick up tube can lower the water enough to stop the rotation.

Do you think I will be OK by leaving the extension tubes off and just running with short intakes? This puts the intakes about 10" off the sand surface.

Burt:)

That's a lot better idea than foam on the intakes. Just be careful during water changes.

a sponge on the intake will work but you will have to keep it clean
