I just bought a submersible pump and it has a pre filter on it. My question is since I have, what I feel is sufficient filtration, could I remove the pre filter and leave the guard on to increase the water it can suck in and ultimately return to the tank?
Prefilter on 1800 gph pump.....

That's a good idea. I did this and the only problem I has was one bio ball got loose and guess where I found it
Attached to my intake! So just make sure you don't have anything that can get stuck to your intake. You will for sure increase your flow by removing the pre-filer and screen

It has a cage to block all large stuff from getting to it. I have plenty of filter floss and such to grab the smaller stuff before it gets to the pump.
