I think that my kenyii is holding but I dont know how to be sure. can anyone tell me how to be sure???

maybe if you post aq picthure...:nilly: :D

i'll try but first i have to find the cords and stuff for my camera.

I'll get back to you

Does she look like she is chewing, but not eating food when you feed the tank? Does she have a bulge under her jaw? If the answer is yes to either or both of these questions, she probably is holding. They typically hold for 16-18 days. You can strip her if you like around the 14 day mark. A pic would help :)

She will rush over to the food with the rest of the fish then not eat or not eat much. After about a week her throat will look darker when the fry hatch

1st of all I have seperated her from the others, 2nd of all she doesnt even go near the food I put in with her and 3rd of all how do you strip her

PS still cant find the cords to my camera

You'd have to net her out into a bucket or large enough container to get two hands in. Its basically holding the fish with your hands (or in the net, but i find it easier without the net) and not covering it's gills, and putting her head underneath the water and gently opening her lower jaw open with your index fingernail. Then you bob the head up and down in the water to get the fry out. If you strip after two weeks, the fry are usually free swimming so they might try to swim back in.

Oh thanx I dont know whether I want to do that. but I still have about 1 week left so I'll think about it.

Congratulations...now on a serious note, do you know what you will do with the fry?

Kenyi aren't the most valuable fish (they're sold in "mixed African cichlids" bags to stores), and they get kind of aggressive (turds).

I bring this up because I had a breeding group of kenyi (on accident) and had a tough time placing them afterwards.

If you have a difficult time placing them you may want to separate the sexes to avoid having an infestation of kenyi- cause in my experience they breed like convicts only their babies tend to have a higher survival rate.

yeah I have another tank set up to keep them and I amy give a couple to a friend.
