So i have a little gallon or two tank i want to put some ghost shrimp in, i figured id just jump start the tank when i got home with the shrimps.

one problem, i think the shrimp are pregnant. 5 out of 8 of the shrimp have tons of green dots hanging off their bellies.

what do i need to do for these guys to hopefully get them to have more shrimp? the tank i was going to jump start it with has a tiny bit of tannin from a piece of driftwood, would that effect the shrimp?

any help is appreciated!

You don't need to do anything the shrimp will take care of it all. They carry the eggs till they hatch. The tannin shouldn't hurt anything tho the water from an established tank won't really jump start a new tank. You need filter media or gravel or deco from an established tank.

ah ok! i have the shrimp in a tank with some of the gravel from the other tank.

i dont need any mosses or anything? ive heard it helps, and i was actually planning on getting some if they actually had any :irked:

If you really want to try and keep as many of the baby shrimp alive as possible, i would suggest you consider getting some sort of sponge filter intake cover... or else you may end up with a lot of the babies sucked into the filtration...

Good point I use a sponge filter in my shrimp tank. Also have java moss in the tank they seem to like it.

well guys, looks like i wont be having any babies.

i put them in a tupperware box thing that was about 4"W X 10"L X 4"D and had them in there with some aquarium gravel and a small air stone.

i woke up to start finding little ghost shrimp on the floor. all but 3 of them had jumped out and died. all i had was a female with only a few little dots and two males. i tossed them into the oscar tank.

if i can get my other tank established ill go see if i can get more of them! they had atleast 200.
