Hi all, havent posted in a long time! I have a trio of hystrix stingrays in a 240 wide aquarium (2 female, 1 male) The females were both purchased at separate locations in December 2010 (3" from Thatpetplace, 4" from a shop in NJ), the male December 2009 (9"from Rapps). this past july (2012) the male was seen attacking/mating with the larger of the two females (THE 3-INCHER now about 12-13 inches wide), chewed her up a little, and after a few days the activity ceased.....Obviously they successfully mated as it has become very obvious that she has babies moving on both sides of her back. I read a few posts about stingray gestation period. Im going on 110-120 days at this point, and wondered at what point to start looking for her to give birth. I know there is at least 2 as you can see separate movement on both sides of her back....Im pretty psyched about this! I will post pics later of the pregnant mom.

Congrats! Your pregnant female has grown a lot in 2 years. Didn't you get a really good deal on that ray from TPP? What do you feed them?
My hystrix mated in late March. Similar to what you saw- the male was all over the female and chewed her up for about 2 weeks and then stopped. I didn't see movement until this summer, late July or so. She gave birth 3 weeks ago to 2 pups. Gestation was about +/- 195 days, so I would say you still have awhile.
Looking forward to seeing some pics.

Thanks for the info!! The pregnant female was like 79 or 89 bucks at TPP! The non-pregnant female was from Aquascape and I think was 150......Funny how the male didnt mate with the other female too??!!I started feedingg the two small females blackworms, eventually mixing in some chopped crawlers. They then got straight nightcrawler, and have been there since about 3 months after purchase. Thats all they will eat! And I will probably sell a few months after they are born....dont have enough room!
