How far in advance can or should you premix brackish water? Should you "age" the water prior to mixing or can you mix, then age? Can it just sit or must it circulate, etc.?:confused::confused::confused:
I'm going to price some containers for the job but what I get would be determined my the answers to the above questions.

Thanks.
Joel

normaly 24hrs is the norm for allowing water to sit. i think anything up to 2 weeks in a cool dark place is the max storage time.

Why exactly is it important for the water to sit after mixing? Is it just so the salt mix dissolves completely?

I was asking for a two part satisfaction. One is connivance. I would like to have some just ready for those emergency water changes. The other was just not knowing if "aged" brackish would have the benefits that "aged" fresh would have. You don't hear about it as often these days but back in the day, people used to let water age to some what distil. I don't know if it's because of today's water conditioners that maybe it's just not necessary or what. In any case, being new to the brackish world, it's a question I'd like to know.

That's what I used to do with the water I used for my betta and lizards.
How long does it take for the water to be safe for an aquarium? What happens to the chlorine and stuff?

I use aquasafe to dechlorinate the water, mix the salt and just let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes before adding it to the tank. If I wasn't using aquasafe or some other dechlorinator, then I would just let it sit 24 hours before using it.

i think so. the reef keepers in the SW forum let it sit that long. as any changes in salt levels can stress coral and inverts. if the water is stable its better for the tank.

i let my water sit for around 30 mins. stirring vigirously every few mins. to get rid of the salt and to aerate the water too.

i have coral in my puffers tank, and all look to be doing well to me. i think people just get too paranoid with thier tanks. the fish, inverts, and corals we keep are a lot tougher than we give them credit for. but i suppose better safe than sorry.
