okay,I know this sound pretty sick but I was thinking it would be pretty kool to somehow preserve like giant fish heads so I can use them in a fish tank as ornaments.I was thinking of using skeletons of fish that eventually die in the future, but, that doesnt happen often. So I got an idea-being that I am also a fisherman-if I caught a huge bluefish or striper in the ocean,I can take the head and let nature do its thing outside, which should take like a week at most. Then once its just a giant skull I will attempt to paint it with silicone or maybe something else I can find that wont harm my alive fish.once its dry,it will become a cave for my live fish.kinda like all the fake alligator heads and steer heads etc ya get at the pet shop.any ideas? What do ya's think?

well, just in case he doesn't know(I p.m.'d him) does anyone else have any ideas? What would really be kool is a real alligator head but there isn't any gators around here.I may be able to find a turtle shell but who the hell knows how it died or if its diseased.

thankyou,I have searched also but,the 1st thread is ones for sale and I am not looking to buy-also his are on display and not resubmerged into a tank.
the 2nd thread-is for basically putting them in a jar or for display as well.I am looking to dry it out-let the maggots eat it all-take the head and put it back in my tank in a safe form that will not deteriorate over time nor kill my fish.silicone is very thick so I am trying to figure out how I can actually paint it on without it looking like crap.I suppose I could dilute it some and just have to use many layers/coats to cover it.
In any case thanks for the input.

west systems epoxy/resin. very easy to use, drys clear, aquarium safe.

awesome-thankyou!I'll read up on it and then go fishing.I will up date when I start the process.....it could be a while.

well I read all about that epoxy resin and it has good reviews but alotta people say its a pain in the arse to work with.I also dont know how clear it is?I am gonna have to just thin out the silicone so I can brush it on and just quadruple coat it until I can get a good solid coat all around it.I need to search around more at some lfs's and see what I can come up with.
