Pressure on fish/moving them

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i too have wondered this but i don't think its that big of a deal because in a pool do you notice a pressure difference between a foot and two or three feet?
it usually takes 7+ feet for a human to notice a pressure difference and people are big. fish are small so lower over all pressure than people because of lower square inches,

unless you're talking about a 10+ foot deep tank, I doubt the change would be dramatic enough to cause any sudden adverse effects on the fish.

Yeah, pressure won't have much of an effect unless the new tank is very, very deep.

Pressure is dependent on water depth since it is the weight of the water above which is creating the pressure. A 10cm long tank will have the same water pressure as a 1000cm long tank or even a 10000cm long tank if they are all the same depth so volume is no indication of pressure. In a deep tank, a fish will experience changes in pressure when it swims up or down.

There are some atmospheric pressure effects dependent on altitude too but these are not worth mentioning unless you want to be pedantic.

It really won't matter as the fish will swim where they are comfortable, so unless you are forcing them to the bottom of a deep tank, no problem.
