Has anyone used a pressurised pond filter in congunction with a large power head for example:Fish Mate 10000 Pressurised UV+Bio Pond Filter (9W) as this type has the added bonus of having a UV built into it and easy maintenance. Would anyone know if it would handle the pressure of being housed under a tank and having water forced through and having to pump back under the force of gravity? These things are going for nothing on e-bay UK. Also I was thinking of tying it up with a Koi pond heater, any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Yes you would be able to do this but bare in mind that the UV's in a pond filter are built to get rid of algae in ponds and pose litle treat to diasese and bad bacteria in the water as the water flow through the UV is much faster, plus the void is alot bigger to aquarium UV's.

If you wanted the bonus of having a UV on the system buy a pond filter without a UV and add a TMC Vecton into the system. Although due to maximum flowrates on the TMC units you may need to use a closed loop system to supply water to the UV.

Also most pond biological media isn't up to scratch for tank use as it's quite bulky taking up alot of space and won't have much surface area for the bacteria, your best of changing it to 1 of the eheim substrates or I have used Alfagrog and Kaldnes K1 in tank systems aswell.

Thanks Paul it makes sence as the tank it's going on will be quite big and its in a consevatery all glass so a lot of light ,so makes sence for pond style filter . The fish are quite hardy and large so should work well with 2x filtration required. I just like to run ideas pass other people thanks for the reply

actually the uv in pond filter will kill most bad and some good bacteria along with algae. It depends on the flow rate and uv wattage But here is where it is bad. By eliminating everything in your water. That will weaken your fish immune system. So when your fish does get sick. The immune system will not be strong enough to recover from it.
