I had a 6" Blue Botia that I've had for about 3 years that from the day I got him quickly became one of my favorite fish. I got a group of 5 of them initially back in the day from my LFS and loved the way they interacted together. Always got a laugh out of how they would sleep on their sides in the weirdest positions, and liked how they made clicking sounds around feeding time. Tons of personality!
One day I got home from work to find my heater stuck on and 4 of the botias dead, and the fifth guy not doing so well. Quickly scooped him out, did a mini water change to bring the temp down and saved him. He survived a pretty nasty Ich outbreak a few years later too.
After I lost all of his brothers and sisters he hid pretty much all day every day, sometimes coming out just to eat, but mostly just eating at night. So it wasnt uncommon for me not to see him for a few days because he could hide up inside some of my larger decorations. Well it was about 4 days into me not seeing him and I decided to pull up the decorations to find him and he wasn't anywhere to be found. I thought maybe he died inside but didnt see any evidence of that. Then thought that maybe he could have jumped out of the 2"x2" whole I have in the back of my lid, so I looked behind the tank and there he was. Always sucks to lose a fish this way.
