No white stripes and he's staying inch for inch growth wise w/ our hybrid O.O still...

If he's WC with a known collection point it might be easy to ID.
If WC without a known collection point it may be difficult.
If he's not WC he's likely a hybrid of pseudoplatystoma species and ID may be impossible. Hybrid is my guess based on the information I have, which certainly may be flawed and there may be regional variations in pattern that don't fit the general descriptions.

Spotted pectoral and dorsal, not a magdaleniatum. ("dorsal and ventral regions of pectoral fin pale with no spots; dorsal fin with few or no spots" quoted from TBTB who was siting Pseudoplatystoma Bleeker (Siluriformes: Pimelodidae) with recognition of eight species. Zootaxa 1512:1-38.)
Lack of pale stripes, not a corruscans, fasciatum, orino, or punctifer. (Morphological comparison in the TSN ID sticky)
Spots on head, not a tigrinum or metaense. (Morphological comparison in the TSN ID sticky)
Pattern's not a retic, based on my observations retics are easily identifiable, most often confused with tigrinum but retic head has spots or continuation of body pattern while tigrinum head is plain.
If all my information is correct, all eight pure species are eliminated, minus the Garciamarquezi, which is highly unlikely. I can't view PDFs from this computer so the only description I've been able to find is http://www.yumpu.com/en/document/view/4709487/pseudoplatystoma-garciamarquezi-a-new-species-of- and it shows a comparison of caudal fins on page 12. It appears this species has much more pointed lobes than yours, which looks to have something resembling the tigrinum tail shape.

Very interesting.. Never been suggested he/she may be a TSN hybrid in and of the subspecies. He came in as a hybrid.. But the other fish that came in looked to be a 100% RTC... I thought it odd so decided he was an interesting fish to grow out, and no clue if they where wild caught or captive raised.

Tropical gar pictured w/ them is 24"+

Houie offered an interesting, thorough, brain-teasing analysis that needs significant time to be entertained. Hopefully I'll find that time before this falls off the back-burner but can't promise.

Where is Necro when we need him? Have not seen him, again, for many months.

Good side shots and other angles would be highly desirable but I understand that he is in a pond and you won't be doing any major fish work any time soon, having just given birth, right, Amy? Is that why the pause? Hope all is well with you and the new baby :) :) :) Lots of congrats!

Yes, Yes he did.. I will obviously keep taking pictures as he develops I just found it odd/amazing he is still keeping up growth wise w/ our hybrid to the point he has hit such a large size, I'm sure part of this is attributed to the 10' diam pool being imo understocked ( we are down to the 2 tropical gar 3 longnose gar and then the 2 cats, having another TSN I'm growing out and a ARTC i'm growing out. As well as a "Dolphin" mormyrid, and a fire eel all of which may end up in this pool down the road pending aggression/size/set-up and what I think will work.)

few things I have noticed

1. the spots on his fins have been slowly vanishing if you look at the "time-line" of pics you should be bale to see this....

2. I forgot but Iir a species develops a dog-bone pattern along it's sides? he very well may be as I have noticed a few "dog bones"

3. his belly of what I can tell is 100% white and pattern free, the black markings stop at the white/tan line, they do not over-lap the white. If you look at the pic you can see where the white is the only black is the "dog bone" pattern none of the lateral lines dip down.

Next time I feed i'll see if I can't get a side pic as he'll come up for food and sometimes flip sideways and show off nicely.. but he's like a torpedo when he "attacks" his food... and not shy one bit anymore. Use to be the big gar I was afraid of tagging me while feeding... now this guy is even less cautious.

And Yes =) She's about 3.5 weeks old now and doing great. I steal what few minutes I can to check here lol.. forget my e-mail ect..

Looks like a p. facitatum to me...pale color is from a waterchange, cycling tank or cold water imo. They get real "light" like this when there unstable, i have a couple that stay this color most of the time aswell and it comes and goes. The round short head shape from above looks very facitatum to me. They really change pattern alot from 18-30", especially the facitatum. Most of the other species have more of a narrow "bill". Just my two cents lol...nice fish regardless. As for the lack of stripes, i think u just cant see them cuz hes so light most the time. Get him a couple tsn buddies so they can pack up against ur hybrid lol...my rtcs and hybrids always picked on the tsn and thats my guess y he may be this color.
