After months of questioning whether or not my veija, Pretzel, was a zonatus or something else, a mfk member said my guy looks like a fenastrutus. I Googled it and...yup. I missed a species of veija when I was researching! I'm looking for a female now!

It's a Cichlasoma Hartwegi, I had to cancel one of those today as the fish guy said he was out of what I wanted and this was a 'similar fish', ER no it wasn't.

I do have a large fenestratus turning up Weds, though!

If that's hartwegi, I'm a ballet dancing chipmunk.
It's fenastratus.
It lacks the red spangles and the overbite of hartwegi.

Well if you need to look that closely to tell the difference I think it's safe to say it doesn't really matter what it is. lol.

It certainly looks like the hartwegi pics I've seen, but then again who knows how many of those are pure bred...

That's a shame, though, I would like to have seen a ballet dancing chipmunk!

Fenastratus are very variable in appearance depending on catch location, from very red headed to an almost white.
Nice fish though.
