Preventative measures to keep bichirs away from bacterial infections?

I've been reading old threads lately pertaining to lost bichirs due to bacterial infections. Is there any preventative measures we can take, such as feeding garlic rich foods?

agree and keep water parameters good, and keep them stress free. quarantine new fish.

i have never had a bichir just "contract" a bacterial infection. Clean warm water, good food and friendly tankmates and you should never ever have a problem
