OK--I'm either really out of touch of what real (not hybrids or inbdreds)peacocks cost or I just went to a store that was completely over priced.

Here is what they had: Adult male Usisya Flavescent that was a really good color. They also had a Aulonocara Lwanda. Again, an adult male that had great colors.

They wanted $40 and $50 bucks each! Needles to say I did not buy them, but I just wondered if that's the going price or what? All I have to compare are online sales and those are like $10 for already colored young adults and $25 for adults. Plus shipping--of course.

Granted, the above store is in CA and everything is out of whack here, but please, shed some light on the going price of adult peacocks.

Thanks,

Sorry, local stores for me (within 20 miles) don't carry peacocks (BUT I DO WANT SOME).

That being said, I do have Malawi Blue dolphins and would expect them to be comparable in price. I've seen electric blues at Petsmart for $30, but I would think $40 and $50 is excessive (unless they're Wild Caught).

That's the price for colored adult at my LFS. Local breeders sell colored subadults for $12 or so. You can buy a bunch of small non colored peacocks for a lot cheaper. Then you just grow them out and pick the best looking males.

adults in my area go from $40 for smaller males all the way up to $75 for larger 5-6" males. it depends alot on the demand of the area and how many stores you have around. there's only one store around me that has good cichlids so they know people will buy. aquabid has decent prices if you dont mind shipping.

Thanks for the replies. I should have added that these are tank bred. I suppose if I really want a particular fish, paying the same amount for driving 100 miles, 2 hour round trip as I would for sight unseen Internet shipping, and all that means, is better.

OK--well, the word is back. These are the going prices. Having determined that, I will give you the name of the store. If you live near San Pedro, CA you might pay the same cost you would for Internet and shipping but at least you get to see the fish before you buy and they have recovered from any jet lag already, etc.

This is the first store I've ever been to where they are willing to order fish for you when you don't want 6 or more of the same kind. I gave the guy named, Adam my list and his breeder either had some or he would order them. Adam was cool that I did not buy all the fish he brought in because he knows he can (and did) sell them. I actually thought the fish he was getting were a little smaller because they would be accepted into my tank--but they were adults and would have gotten thrashed.

It's called, 7 Seas Tropical Fish at 1707 S. Gaffey St., San Pedro, CA 90731 and their phone number is 310.832.5339. They can get almost anything and he will tell you exactly what scientific name it is, where it came from to the minute detail- and what generation it is. He has a really good selection there at the store too. I bought several mbuna that I have never seen at any fish store near me--that's why I drove so far.

FYI--
