they are both on aquarist classified.
i would not pay that much for them but there are people that would.
i think unfortunatly people mange to breed them and then charge high prices for them when it only cost the original amount for the rays so make a huge profit and it means alot of people can still not afford to buy then where as if they sold them for alot less then it would bring the overall price down.
but you cant blame people for wanting to make some money.
i am after a leo but you are looking at around £600 but if they were cheaper i could afford one maybe two and then i could breed them and pass them on at a lower price so everyone could enjoy the amazing fish.

Rays are expensive to buy, expensive to house, expensive to feed.. And you're saying pups should be sold cheaply?
It most certainly doesn't only cost "the original amount for the rays" - if you have rays of a breeding size, you're spending hundreds to thousands a year just feeding them.

but if you are keeping the rays anyway like i keep 2 and they have not bred yet but i spend the money on them because i like they rays and its my hobbie so if they did breed then it would just be an added benefit and i would sell my pups cheap so other people would be able to benefit from having a nice ray that they have not had to sell a kidney to buy.
Like you said some people will always pay for it as its also supply and demand.
It's not like guppies were you have to give them out for free.
Also the breeders will have other costs to cover like if the female dies from giving birth or like cases were the female kills the male.
I'm sure if these happened to you then you will rethink the whole situation
