I would looking thru the price ranges of various "common" Sharks & Rays for home aquaria both LFS & online dealers.

While I also realize that prices vary from state to state, or country to country.

Here's what I found for some of the more well know species.

Brown Banded Bamboo (Chiloscyllium punctatum) - $20-40 for egg, $50-80 for juvies.

White-spotted Bamboo (Chiloscyllium plagiosum) - about $70-100 for juveniles

California Horn (Heterodontus francisci) - ranges from $100-200 depending on location & size of juvenile.

Coral Catshark (Atelomycterus marmoratus) - usually between $90-125

Epaulette (Hemiscyllium ocellatum) - usually around $300-400, but some captive bred juveniles can be found for around $200-250.

Marbled Catshark (Atelomycterus macleayi) - usually about the same as the Coral catshark in terms of price.

Port Jackson's (Heterodontus portusjacksoni) - usually found ranging from $350 -500 each.

Gray Smooth hound (Mustelus californicus) - about $150-250.

Just a few examples to start with.

that's about the best thing about living in singapore: marine fish are really inexpensive (:

worst thing: all reptiles illegal.

Ken, nice post. Always nice to help out Li and his new forum ;)

I wish those prices could be found in Canada, a Grey Smoothhound goes for $500-600, White Spotted Bamboo $250, Brown Banded Bamboo about $200 and these are all prices for Juveniles.

I had forgot some of the more popular rays.

So here goes.

- California (Round) Stingray (Urobatis halleri) usually about $60-90.

- Cortez Stingray (Urobatis maculatus) is usually about $70-100.

- Bulls-eye Stingray (Urobatis concentricus) is approximately $110-140.

- Yellow Stingray (Urobatis jamaicensis) is roughly $120-180.

- Atlantic Stingray (Dasyatis sabina) about $50-90.

- Blue-spotted Ribbontail Ray (Taeniura lymma) is about $85-125.

Also some more sharks.

- Blacktip reef (Carcharhinus melanopterus) is roughly $1,000 to 1,500.

- Bonnethead (Sphyrna tiburo) is roughly $ 600 to 1,200.

- Atlantic Smoothhound (Mustelus canius) is roughly $250 - 300.

here our available species are limited, but

juve blacktip reefs for SGD$250
coral catsharks for 18
brownbanded eggs for 12
juve brownbanded bamboos for 28
whitespotted bamboos for 40
bluespotted ribbontail, T. lymma for 18
bluespotted ray,D. kuhlii for 18

no shipping charges.
usually if they don't have the animal in stock- and usually the only sharks and rays that are constantly instock are the coral cat, brownbanded bamboo and the two bluespotted rays,-then we just ask the dealer if he'd bring one in soon.

I meant the shipping charges to North America.

Naturally they're cheaper in Singapore, collectors in Singapore can catch them in the wild.

As Example - here in the good ol' U.S.A. Horn Sharks (Heterodontus francisci) are fairly cheap - but then collectors in California can catch them all along the southern coast of California.

But Port Jackson's are fairly expensive -- because they have to be imported from Australia to the U.S.

But I tend to bet in Australia - the Port Jackson's likely cheaper than Horns.

The reason -importation doubles the sellling price of the shark - at least.
