what is the typical cost for an ornate? I saw them the other day for 50$ but they were probably 6-8 inches long. what is the right cost for something like this?

I have seen price ranges of 29.99-85.00. Depends on the size, fifty is a little steep for that size IMO.

I got mine at $50 when it was just 5". It was my first time seeing one after checking out a few LFS so I had to have it then. Then later on saw some slightly larger ones at other LFS going for $30.

hell yeah they are worth it.. it might be a litlle bit out of your pocket but they are bad ass!!!!! no special needs really, just dont keep them with any fish they can fit in their mouth

i would say a 55gallon and yes they are worth the money just make sure you have the top of the tank cover and give them room to go up and get air...

A 55 gallon is too small for an ornate. Ornates gets to be around 24" long so the minimum would be about 4'long x 2'wide. A 55 gallon would be good for grow out tank though. And yes they are worth it IMO.
