I was wondering what the going rate for a large (7"-9") Royal/Watermelon Pleco was? I have started to look around for one and my lfs has an 8" Royal for $160. I thought that was way high, but I'm not sure as I just started looking and know it takes a wihile to grow these guys out. I live in the Chicago area so any giudance would be appreciated.

it will be by range. Cheapest in my area for wild caught royals is 40 bucks, but they are like 2 inches, so no sweet clue. In my area, the larger the fish, the cheaper it is unless its a special order. Large fish get priced lower so they are more likely to sell. I know that does not work everywhere haha
i got a2-3 inch for 30 from vendor aquascape 1 year ago very healthy on arrival and i haveno affiliation with them
$160 is too high, I agree. If I was in the market I'd be comfortable paying somewhere under $100 for a good looking 8 incher in good shape. Sometimes I order them in for my store with no indication as to size, and they will actually come in at like 5-6" for retail about $25-30.

Thanks for the replies, I thought it seemed high. I have never ordered fish online before, and once you add in shipping cost, it still gets up there. I'll keep looking around here.
