I was just wondering if $30 is a good price for red tail payara. I've paid $40 for a scomb before and I know that was a bit too expensive but $30 for a tat seemed pretty good to me.

What size???
Under 3" that is prob average.
Over that, it is a good deal...
I paid $75-$90.00 for my Tats that ramge from 8.125"-9":D

yea probably around the 5-6" mark. I thought they might have a chance at being armatus'. There were 6 of them huddled in a corner together perfectly horizontal. I got one of the people there to coax one to the front of the tank so I could check it out and it was a tat. I think I might have to go back and buy one..........or a small shoal of them. Would 3 or 4 do ok together or would they do better in a larger group?

Not many people have them in a shoal not yet 2 or more (that I know of...)

Shoot, I would buy all of them!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you in Virginia???

yea I live in Northern VA and I work out in silver spring MD so I go around to all the LFS in MD after work or so. It would be something to see, a shoal of 6 or 7 tats.

R1 had a shoal of Tats and he said they are way more active together then alone. At that price Id go for it! It wouldnt hurt to ask for a 'quantity discount' either.

I agree. just with the 3 that I have, they are pretty good swimmers. My first tat (1 of 3 in the tank) swims back and forth like crazy. I guess claiming he is the dominant one???????

I would buy a few of them but I'm not too sure how happy they would all be in a 150 that is 24" wide. How large are they going to grow? I hear around 18". Is that at all accurate or could they grow larger?

18" is the magic# floating around. Until someone can prove otherwise:D

I have them in a 150 with a 12" Spot Gar and a 6.5 Ray:D
Another Tat 9-10" to reach home late March:naughty:

I have a lot of current in my set up and everyone seems to like it
