Has anyone compared a capful of prime to the amount one would normally dropper? It seems like I've been going through a lot more Prime now than when I was using buckets. Are they conning me into wasting it?
Trust the labeling. haha sorry. I'm not sure, but I would assume they would be about the same, or maybe they are different concentrations, adjusted to be easily dosed whether it be via drop by drop or capful.
Invest a few $ in a dosing syringe.
You can find them in most all drug stores and quite a few health sections of department stores.
The barrels are clearly marked in ml. graduations.
I also recommend the syringes/droppers. I think Prime would have come with a dropper. All the Seachem plant products in the same size bottle include a dropper. I think the cap is 5 mL which is consistent with the 1 mL per 1 gal in the instructions.
it is generally accepted that there are approx 20 drops of water per ml... there are countless influences on "a drop" so no true volume can be concluded, but this is the 'generally accepted' volume...
So 20 drops per ml x 5 = 100 drops in 5 ml...
2 drops treats 1 gal, so 100 drops treats 50 gal... or 5 ml treats 50 gal... or 1 capful treats 50 gal...
I just pour a little bit straight from the bottle to the tank. I don't even bother with the cap anymore much less a syringe. Although I do have a syringe I use for measuring ammonia when playing with cycling...
lol..i was wondering the same thing...I've had my bottle of prime for only two months and its almost gone....one capful per 50 gallons...i do 40 gallons w/c a week...thats only one capful per week??
I have 2 droppers for prime one that goes up to 50ml for my big tanks and one that only goes up to 1ml for dosing single gallons at a time for my baby 10G. Although I never does the single gallon, I just dose the whole 10 gallons. its not worth it to me to does .5 ml instead of 1ml. I mean sure I am using twice as much but honestly it would take a long time to add up. 100 weekly water changes using 1ml of prime is 2 years basically.
