Have you tested your water?
Yes
If I did not test my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?
Yes
If I do not change my water...

I’m about to dose my tank with Fritz Paracleanse and I was wanting to do a water change prior to doing so. Will the Prime that I use for the water change affect the Paracleanse treatment?

Prime is a reducing agent, and will make other chemicals not work properly. Wait at least 3 hours after adding Prime when adding other chemicals to the aquarium.

Yah I kind of had a feeling it would affect it in some way, just wasn’t quite sure how long I would need to wait. Thanks for the reply!

Not sure if you have any experience with Fritz Paracleanse but was hoping to at least get your opinion if not. I have a 90 gallon tank with (2) penn Plax cascade 1000 canister filters. Directions say to do (1) packet for every 10 gallons of water. Would you do (9) packets or (10) to include the water in the canister filters?

Anytime you dose a tank that goes of of water volume you account for all the water in the system, tank and filters/sump.

Your tank is likely only 80 gallons of water so 9 packets should be fine. Instructions recommend another dose on day 3. Be sure you have no carbon in your filtration.

What are you treating BTW?

Water in a canister is almost negligible (maybe 1-2 gallons) since the tank is more likely not holding a full 90 gallons of water. If you really want to find your total water volume of your tank, do inside measurements of the tank (to the water line for height) and use an aquarium calculator. At your next canister cleaning, empty the water out in a bucket or gallon jugs to see how much water the canister is really holding.

All in all, do the 9 packets as suggested for a 90g tank.

I’m not quite sure what I’m treating for to be honest. I previously had 4 geos gradually die off 1 after another. About a week apart for all of them. Heavy breathing but nothing out of the ordinary as far as the appearance of the fish. Couple weeks later had an angel fish randomly die. Now a couple weeks later I noticed one of my electric blue acaras sitting on the ground and then later that day died. Never noticed anything wrong with the appearance other that the Acaras stomach maybe being a little sunken in and has white almost stringy poop sometimes. I had recently given them shrimp, so I wasn’t sure if it was just the shrimp they were pooping out. Figured I would give this Fritz stuff a shot. I also have other fish that do not seem affected. The water parameters are fine, tank has been up and running for almost 1.5 years now.
