What is priming? im about to get 2 xp3 filters, but i dont know what priming is
can anyone tell me what it is and how you do it?

It's voiding the system of air.

On an XP3, assemble the filter, pull up on the lever that lets you take the hoses off, fill the intake hose (with the intake in the tank and the tank full). You fill the hose by taking the black cap off. Make sure it's on tight when the hose is full. once the intake hose is full, push down on the lever (which opens a valve to let water into the filter) and it will create a siphon that will fill the canister. Once the canister is full plug it in and it should run on its own from there.

I used to have to prime my HOB by pouring water into it.

i thought all filters need priming. hob overflows/canisters/hob filters... only standpipes dont need priming.

My XP3 doesn't need priming per se. The first time you use it you have to pour water into the tube then close the quick disconnect valve and it'll "auto prime" itself.
