no love for saw fishes here?

Their critically endangered and heres some information I found....

Max length : 140 cm TL male/unsexed;

Environment

Marine; brackish; demersal; depth range 0 - ? m

Climate / Range

Tropical; 10°S - 22°S, 125°E - 149°E

Distribution
Indo-West Pacific: tropical Australia, possibly more widely distributed. A nominal record from the Canary Islands may not be this species, but the sketchily known Pristis pristis from the eastern Atlantic is similar and needs comparison to determine if the two species are distinct.

Short description
Greenish brown, rarely yellowish; white ventrally; fins paler. Body shark-like, pectoral fins distinct; head flattened, with a blade-like snout bearing 18-22 pairs of lateral teeth; blade broad, not tapering distally. Nostrils broad with large nasal flaps. Rostral teeth slender, with a groove along posterior margins; teeth reaching basal quarter of blade. Skin with denticles.

Biology

Inshore and intertidal species found in estuaries and on tidal mudflats. Ascends brackish areas of rivers. Ovoviviparous. Biology little known. Flesh may be good to eat.

"This relatively small sawfish may be restricted to the tropical coasts and estuaries of north and north-western Australia, or more widely distributed through the Indo-Pacific. Australian populations have declined significantly as a result of bycatch in commercial gillnet and trawl fisheries throughout this limited range and this bycatch continues, in commercial and recreational fisheries. If this sawfish also occurs outside Australian waters, these areas are fished even more intensively and populations there are likely to be nearing extirpation."

"Despite the dwarf sawfish's interesting mode of food gathering, using its rostrum in a side-to-side slashing motion to dislodge invertebrates from substrate and to stun schooling fishes, little is known about the feeding habits of this species. Food items for the dwarf sawfish have not yet been recorded. Probable food items include small fishes and crustaceans, such as crabs and shrimps."

saw fish are freshwater. only the sawSHARKS aren't. and yes the saw fish are extremely endangered and are likely going to become exinct. i doubt you are going to get one unless ur mega rich and knowledable and know where to get one. They might be sold in the illigal pet industry. IDK.

Habitat

The habitat preferences of this species is not well known. The dwarf sawfish occur only in coastal and estuarine habitats. This species is known to occur miles up rivers and appears to be uncommon in the Gulf of Carpentaria, preferring sand and mud flats, along with estuarine habitats. The dwarf sawfish has been found in the Pentecost River, Western Australia, as far as 6.2 miles (10 km) upstream, and in the adjacent estuary. It has not been documented in freshwater habitats.

With more reading, I've found this out...so you and I are both right :)

"sawfish can be found in both freshwater and saltwater."

"All sawfish have the ability to traverse between fresh and saltwater"
