DNR to Offer Recognition and Prizes to Anglers Who Catch and Kill Snakeheads

In an effort to stem the spread of the invasive snakehead fish the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Potomac River Fisheries Commission (PRFC), and the U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USF&WS) are providing an opportunity to win prizes for anglers who catch, kill and enter photos of the snakeheads through the popular DNR online Angler’s Log social fishing site at dnr.maryland.gov/fisheries/fishingreport/log.asp.

“We do not want Snakeheads in our waters,” says DNR Inland Fisheries Director Don Cosden. “This initiative is a way to remind anglers that it is important to catch and kill this destructive species of fish.”

wish i lived closer, sounds like a fun contest

i never bad mouthed it. cant wait to go to potomac this year and catch some.

ive been following this. lots of people posting dead snakeheads pictures on the dnr anglers log website. one had a stringer of 5x SH that were around 24" a piece and this one really bothered me, this one is huge (or atleast it looks that way). world record is only like 19 or 20 lbs, looks like we might have a world record from our waters here soon.

i myself would love to go fish for one of these for the sport, not the contest. mine would be released. Good news is theres been one recorded as far north as the northeast river, and my river is the next one up right around the corner. the susquehanna flats has so much shallow grassy waters that its only a matter of time before they call it home too.

anyways this is disgusting. they are here and like the flatheads they arent going anywhere, better it except it as it comes

If we cull them to extinction here in the states, where's the hurt? I'd rather be on the safe side concerning our native fish than cry my eyes out over an invasive species.
