Ultima is designed to be downward flow. Meaning that the media sits on the bottom during filtering. Ultima media is a sinking type. K1 media is floating type which will not sit on the bottom.
Ultima filters already lack fine particle screening so with K1 media suspended in the chamber, it would only be worse. Also, bigger media traps less particles. It will probably work if you use it strictly for biological.
