when i purchased my RD it was dark orange in colour around 2"-3" and now currently he's 6" but his colour is light orange whatis this

and also how will i know that it is male or female

Labiatus are known to change colors drastically throughout life.. And what you start with is very unlikely what you will end with.. Venting is my favorite way of sexing cichlids

Don't stress, it's perfectly natural. As stated by Tongue, they will go through many colour changes during their life.

Mine is 6" and has been completely orange for a couple of months. Before that, it had black splotches on it's body that would move and be in different places about every week.

I will tell you a RD enhancement trick, feed the bad boy some krill and after a few weeks of good feeding and throw in some Hikari cichlid food he will be turning a deeper red! Works on my dudes and they are bright orange; but some even w/ feeding like that can turn almost white. Labiatus are weird specimens to work with, but they are beautiful and hardy nonetheless; BTW, I would get a larger tank!!
