i was thinking of buying a baby silver arow. 1-3 in. what is the probability that is would dye and i would lose my money.

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Not a very big probability that it would DYE, as most of them seem to stay the same color. However, at those sizes, there is a pretty good chance that it will DIE! Normally you want to stay away from silver and black arowanas till they are around 4" long. They are much more hardy then and just easier to get onto prepared foods. Sometimes you can make it work though. Just make sure that the yolk sac is COMPLETELY gone. Ask to see that the arowana is eating. Don't buy it if it is not or if it isn't active. :)

Best of luck!

Should be good. I bought mine when he was around 3 inches. It wouldn't eat prepared foods and was afraid of blood worms but he would eat medium sized crickets. Now it's an eating machine, anything that hits the surface of the water goes in his mouth, including my fingers lol. I've had him now for about 5 months.

ok,thanks so you feed him crickets. did you buy them from the petstore

Personally, if you have never kept an aro before or have not done plenty of research, I would advise against getting a baby aro as they are still very delicate, even with their yolk sac fully absorbed. You will greatly increase your chance of success with a 6-7 inch aro and the price difference should be minimal.

If you do decide to get one, i would recommend keeping it by itself until around 6-7 inches because they can easily be bullied or stressed to death. Also make sure to cover every tiny hole on the top of your tank because they will find a way out if you don't.

If you are still unsure, make a post in the Arowana subforums for more feedback.

there very fragile at that size if you can pick out a healthy one and give it its own tank or with very calm non aggressive tank mates and be very gentile transporting it then it should be okay but they can get stressed eazily best to wait till there 4'' or so

ok thanks

What ended up happening man? Did you go ahead and get them and give it a whirl? Or wait it out a few more?! I'm sure Nick (NE Cichlids) could get you in some GREAT arowana, black and silver. You should look into that. He is a vendor here if you were unaware....

yeah i know but i can get them here. thanks
