hey there, i'm just curious . is it a stupid idea to place a clownknife in an african tank? i have a 180 gallon tank with some africans and a frontosa in it, i really like the ck's but i'm unsure if it is possible to put one in that tank? thanks

ill tell you what anyone else will, you must try it. i wouldn't because of the aggression on such a delicate, yet tough fish. but i have never had any success with clown knives before regardless. so i say no, but if you want to try then the outcome is really a gamble of 50-50.

lol he's an expert :D

Clown knifes are too delicate and african cichlids are too aggressive. You'll wind up with a dead clown. You might be able to manage if you try the most peaceful africans possible (Pseudotropheus sp., Labidochromis caeruleus, Iodotropheus sprengerae), but I assume you already have the tank stocked.

Why would I say this? Well, I have a saulosi in with my community tank right now--don't ask why--and it hasn't attacked anything. The problem is I have no idea how the temperament would be with pairs or groups.

Yeah, Labidochromis caeruleus can be fairly aggressive. My dominant male fights everything in the tank. (Oscars, Pleco, Pictus, Other Africans, African Knives, etc.)

on the contrary, i grew out a ck in my 75 till it was like 14 inches long then gave it to my friend with africans in his 180, it worked, but probably only becuase he was getting too big to pick on

if anything, i would worry about the knife eating the africans lol
