well, Localy i can buy a Rena XP3 for $279.99!!
thats just crazy..

would i be better off to spend the same price (+ shipping) on a
Fluval FX5 Canister Filter .. or is that OVERKILL for a 4x2x2 tank? and i should just get the Xp3??

fx5. its not really overkill for a 4x2x2 it would be for a 3x2x2. im getting a 4 ft tank fer free and im chucking on a fx5

Over-filtering is always a good problem to have...

I would probally get the fx5 and I completely hate fluval filters...

you cant over filter but in a 3x2x2 or a 3x1.5x1.5 the current created yould kill the fish unless they were "built" to swim constantly.

go with the fx5, you can always use it on a bigger tank when you upgrade

Naw, it would be fine. Think about it this way. With HOB you would need a turnover rate of around 10x an hour witch would be 900 gph! and would not kill any fish. The fx5 does around 650? gph with media and head height. I have had an xp3 on a 30g, along with a powerhead, still no current worth killing a fish.
