I'd like a little advice on what to do. I got 3 males and 2 females about 6 months ago around 2 inches. I hoped to try and get the best combo, but a male was killed early on, so I sold one of the females only to have a female get killed, so I'm down to one male and one female. They are almost 6 inches and by what I've read, should be mature enough to breed. I've had them by themselves this whole time. They were in smaller tanks until they got to this size and then I put them in a 75 with no luck in which they hid at the top all day. Currently, they reside in a 60 gallon tank and don't hide as much, but still haven't produced any eggs. Is this a good sign that they're not compatible or should I keep trying? I know I could try some different things and one that I'm wondering about is if I should put them in a larger tank (300 gallon) with other fish or keep them by themselves. thanks for any input.

86 degrees and around 6.5 for pH

water conditions can make a big difference, and as these are CA cichlids, would they be more likely to breed at a higher Ph, maybe 7.5?

im havin the same prob but i have a female lossellei and a male rtm that paired up but the female wont lay eggs and the rtm is beatin her up realy bad so i put a divider. she seems to be intrested now but havent removed the divider yet..

Try lowering the temp Paul. Also I would increase WC schedule if possiable. I think would just give them more time. Or sell me the male.:D

yeah, i was thinking about that, but I really don't want to mess w/ the pH. Maybe I'll try adding some sort of african cichlid salt to try and raise it. I really don't want to change the substrate to crushed coral.

no way! :D even if they won't breed, they cohab fine and I really like how both look even if the females are a lot nicer. I'll get the temp down when I do the water change this weekend and try changing 1/4 or 1/3 each week. I was supposed to get my daughter today so I've been hanging around the house and I didn't really want to leave, but I can't get a hold of her mother as she never told me a time. I wanted to stop by today to grab the dovii.

well, I moved my flowerhorn out of its 85 gallon that has crushed coral and is around 7.5 pH and I'll have the temp at about 83, so we'll see what happens

83 should be fine.I would do a large water change about 60% with cool water about 75 degrees and do a 1o% cool water change every day and feed frozen krill or market shrimp for a week and see what happens. I that doesn't work I put a divider in for about a week then take it out for a week.If still no eggs I do it all over again. Always works for me.
