I need to find a freshwater ray and cichla safe anti-parasite treatment available in the UK but I'm finding it's a struggle.

It seems Prazipro is the one everybody recommends on this site but it isn't available in the UK :irked:

Something called Sera Tremazol is available but I can't find any documentation to say it would or would not be safe for me to use. It is based on Praziquantel. Problem is, I read that it was formerly called Alpha Biocare Moneol and on their website http://www.alphabiocare.info/eng/moneol.htm it says under "Contraindications and side effects: Do not use Monoeol for fresh-water ray". :irked:

I've also found this product http://www.aquarium-munster.com/Eng/GB_7.9_Arz_Aquarium.asp Has anyone used this?

Anyone have any ideas or experience with using any of these products with rays?

Hi Nick,

Tremazol/Moneol is ray save, many ray keeper here in Germany use it in ray tanks. The Info on the website is outdated. I was told that they test it with rays that were near death and would have die even without treatment. So the death of these rays was not caused by the med.

Very important is the recommanded 80% waterchange after the treatment.

Thanks for the input rayman.

I was also wondering about the 80% water change but I read it was more to do with abnormal bacteria build-up than toxicity.
Again to quote the Alpha Biocare website info :-
"Moneol® is in general very well tolerated by fish. In cases of longer periods of treatment the growth of peculiar bacteria in the aquarium may become accelerated thus introducing a darkening of the water and a constant reduction of the O2-content. This effect is – if at all – seen after about 4 hours of treatment, i.e. at a date, when the worms are already killed.
Therefore we recommend – only with respect to a general precaution – that 5-14 hours after the beginning of the treatment a 80% change of water should be done.

I was considering maybe a 50% wc after 5hrs then another 50% in 24hrs would be ok, which would suit my situation better.
