Tank specs:
75 gal
eheim 2028
RUGF
drip system with overflow (about 35-45 gal per week)

Fish load:
1 - 8" warmouth (Lepomis gulosus)
1 - 6" Blue Gill (Lepomis macrochirus)
1 - 9" Black bullhead (Ameiurus melas)

I have the outlet the filter is plugged into on a switch separate from the lights, and another powerhead in the tank. I found the switch off today, it has been at least a month since i have done any tank maintance. The last date i know it was on was March 4th.

I took the filter outside and broke it down, it defiantly had a powerful anarobic smell, (sulfer, like rotten eggs)

I am pretty sure my BB colony is dead so I washed evrything with clorinated water but i still can smell the sulfer, i have the 2028 set up and running in a 5 gal bucket currently.

This is what i am doing for the tank:
- upping the drip to do a 100% wc every day
- will do light feedings every 3rd day or so
- I had 20 PPM nitrate (it usually will not even read) before i did a WC and big vacuum

Question:

I have 3 other 2028's running on different tanks right now, my 1st thought is to swap out some bio media (those tank do have lots of plants in them and i do not know how big a bio- colony is in them). Is the biomedia from the 75 gal toxic after it has been flushed? do i need to pitch it?

I say use it but throw a poly filter in there to see if it's putting any hard metals in your aquarium. Then maybe just a 50% water change the day after you set it back up
