Ok....Here is the thing, I have a Gold Wonder Killie, and last night after feeding him, he had this "stuff" sticking out of his anus. It looked like a little bundle of fibers. Now this morning when I went to check on him, he looked fine except for a little "piece" of this stuff still sticking out.....

WHAT THE HECK IS IT???? Do I need to medicate? Is it something that is contagious to my other fish?

HELP!.

Jen ;)

Hi Jen,

What did you feed him last? Some foods create "stringy" feces. Or could it be that these fibers were worms? Did you see them move?

I had just fed them some freeze dried krill, and some pellets. I did watch to see if they moved, but they did not. He was really bloated from eating like a pig, could this have been a part of his insides coming out?

If it was a proplapsed rectum it would be pretty obvious that the extruded part was part of him. If it is small reddish hairs, fairly long that move it would be nematodes.
It have a feeling though that this is something different. How long have you had it and how much of it's diet is freeze dried krill? I once had a honey gourami that ate so much of them it started pooping undigested bits, the antennae in particular look much like thin reddish worms, Stop giving it the krill, try live brine shrimp or even flake food for a couple days and see if it goes away.

Well, I know it was not moving, or red....What it looked like was straight grayish white fibres. It was really weird.

If it was not moving , even though not reddish, it was probably still chiton fragments such as antenna or leg bits from the krill try to get a sample and look at it with a magnifying glass.

internal parasites.

most likely worms.

you're screwed.... I mean, your fish.

GET SOME MEDICATION ASAP. Don't ask me what kind of medication, just go to your nearest petstore and start looking for one that treats internal parasites. They're all generic medications that treats a million parasites with the same medication, so STEP ON IT!

If you can't get a good look at the fibers I would dose them using Jungle's Anti-Parasite Medicated Food because as Mil says, it could easily be parasites, that brand contains both metronidazole and praziquantel and another med who's name escapes me at the moment. The meds won't hurt a killie.
