so every day my fx5 starts to put off micro bubbles,
then it gets loud (like the pump is working hard), so i unplug it and it purges a ton of water like 2 gallons or so!'
so is this what everyone means when they say micro bubbles or is there something wrong with my purge tubing?
do you think its clogged?
do you think im sucking water in from some where?
the lid is on tight
theres no holes in the hosing (no leaks)
i have no aeration near the intake

yeah i do have a filter pad in the top tray, buts its a thin blue and white bonded one,, and i ve had in in there there since day one )6 mnths ago) and never had this problem(i clean this filter monthly)

i guess my first action should be to remove this pad
but i think you need a little something there to keep the media clean
which btw wat is a liter of purigen in the top try and the rest is ceramic rings

problem has been going for about a month,
i broke down the filter 2 weeks a go
gave it a good cleaning and the problem stopped for about a week now here we are again

Any help?

It is a common issue on mine when the filter media(AC110 sponges, cut to fit) starts to clog. It causes the impeller to cavitate creating the micro-bubbles you see being expelled.

The cut down AC110 sponges I use for mechanical filtration go about 3 months before they start to clog.

do you have any polishing pads??? or packed it too much.. I had that problem every single day until I got rid of it...lol.. dont pack it too much..

remove the blue pad and it should be fine after that. Even after cleaning the blue pads every month, your still not going to remove everything from the pad and eventually it will clog faster and faster.

Micro bubbles caused by Vapor Cavitation

You filter is always sucking in water :) :)

Vapor Cavitation is cause by a reduction in flow usually before the impeller and the pressure of the water at the eye of the impeller drops so far that the water degasses releasing disolved oxygen and Co2 along with other gases. Most of these gases get blow out through the output but some get forced back through the purge tube and will fill the canister with air eventuallty which is why you see the canister purge so much after it does this for a while.
