i just did a WC and cleaned the media in my AC110. when i plugged it back it i get this grinding sound. it sounds like the impeller is rubbing something. it goes in and out but will get very high pitched at times. the filter is not running like it was before either. im going to try to go to a few LFS tomorrow to look for an impeller but im not sure if that will be the fix? any ideas?

Ugh! mine does this too. I have sand. Do you? I have gone thru 4 AC110's because of this issue. I never replaced the impeller tho, so that could be it. But I would try either rinsing it out and removing all the pieces that the impeller sits in, and see if that works. The one I have now, still does it, but has gotten a little bit quieter.

Same problem here...I also have sand. If you take the impeller apart and rinse it out the filter will go silent again. I'm about to give up on this filter or shorten the intake tube. For me it's just a back-up for my two Eheim canisters in the same tank.

Pull out the impellar and clean inside and out the housing. Then take and pull of the rubber end on the metal shaft that goes thru the impellar. And flip the shaft and reassemble.

this will get you twice the life on the impellar/shaft assembly.

I do this with all my HOB's around once a year whether they need it or not just because it extends there life. And it lets me inspect parts so I can pre order before I need them and have them on hand.

Now that is something I am going to try tonight. Thank you.

okay guys what you do is buy the same filter from pets smart and swap out your old filter , they take it back no problem guarentee.

The funny thing is, that is EXACTLY what I do. Everytime this happens i go buy a new one and return it. Funny thing tho, one time ended up getting one of my old filters back. I knew it was mine b/c I had scratched a side in a way you couldn't recreate :D Needless to say, I couldn't exactly go back and say hey, this is my old filter I returned. But I returned it anyhow.

my 8yr old ac30 did the same thing nomater how well i cleaned it...after 1 month of grinding on and off it finally welded itself to itself(impellor to motor)
