It pumps fine but i got small leaks the clamp points and there is a small gap on one side and i can push it together, so my question is that is it the clamps that arent working properly or is it something else?

Yeap. I had the same issue but once I checked, the o-ring was getting pinched on one side.
It didn't require replacing. It just needed to be adjusted.
I'd take it off and clean it, and the groove. I use silicone grease safe for aquaria... and it will stay put while you put the top on...
