i received a used fluval 405
the problem is that filter will stop water flow intermittently. i can hear the impeller spinning and clicking but no water is flowing out of the output. i checked the impeller and shaft and both seem to be in good condition.

the problem is worse when the flow control lever is at maximum. right now i have the flow control lever almost at maximum and it seems to be working better now.

anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

thanks for the help!

You could have some trapped air in it.

Turn it off and use the priming pump to get all the air out. Make sure the water lines don't have any loops or too much slack, they should be in a farily stright line from the tank to the housing.

is it blowing out bubbles from the output? if it is you have air in there or the o-ring may not be properly seated and causing problems...the fluvals are a bit tricky to seal try putting a bit of vaseline on the ring

thanks for the help!
there is alittle to much slack with the line, so i will adjust that and i will also try sealing it better with vasoline.

i cut hoses so there is less slack and it was working for about 2 weeks. then the problem started again. i took everything apart and cleaned the impeller and shaft. reconnected everything and left my house. when i came home the shaft was broken in half.

should i buy a new impeller and shaft or just a new shaft?

also, what is the impeller ring? im not sure where that is.

is it possible for the motor to be broken?

thanks for the help
