so today i finally got around to adding more media to the fx5...i only had one tray full w ceramic rings but i added bio balls to the two others. The only thing now is tat the fx5 makes a gurgling noise for some reason. i did a little research n it mite be the impeller but it was working fine before i added the extra media.

thanks

I have sand in my tank that I have the fx5 on, when I took the fx5 apart to .clean. the media, some sand got in the impeller. On the bottom of the motor are screws you have to take out to take the motor off. I cleaned it out, put it back together, and everything worked great.

yea tat wud make sense if i had sand in my tank but i dont and it was working fine before i added the media

Could have been some debris that got stuck in the impeller. I would take the motor off and give it a good rinse. I have also heard of the propeller getting damaged from improper instillation and causing the motor to make a humming noise.

Is the flow pulsating at all? If it is mine did this when I added 2 trays of bio balls.. I diald down my output by half for around 15min or so and that fixed it, it does it everytime I shut it off. I know its suppose to have an auto purge.
