problem with knife fish

i have got a decent sized knife that recently has been in the wars.
his bottom lip is hanging off and im not sure how to help him. he seems to be eating ok but im not sure if i should anaethetise him and operate or if the lip will die and drop off in time?

any thoughts?

Pics would help to see how bad it is, but if it's eating and not showing any signs of stress, then I'd say, just take care of it to the best of your ability.
