I have had this fish for about a year and a half and have never had a problem but recently i was just hanging out and noticed that he puffed up out of nowhere which he has never done before after a couple minutes he went back down but then was laying on his side looking like he was gasping i went to my kitchen and by the time i was back he was swimming around as if nothing ever happened one thing that i noticed is he had something big that it looked like eh was trying to poop out..he has been acting strange ever since today he has been staying at the top of the tank its been a couple days and tonight i noticed hes like floating with his left side up and it looks like he is trying to get to the bottom but keeps floating to the top he also has not been eating if anyone can give me any ideas as what to do i would appreciate it as i have never had an issue with him before and im quite worried as this fish has became my little buddy :) if you wanna directly contact me my iphones e mail is kayessmobile@gmail.com thanks in advance

we'll need a bit more info then that to answer the question... such as, what are the water parameters, what size tank he's in, what you are feeding etc... the more info the better...

As for the puffing, normally if its just puffing alone, theres nothing to really worry about, as long as it wasn't caused by anything startling it... since i've seen my puffers randomly puff for no apparent reason, and when they notice i spotted them, they seem to immediately de-puff as if to say "i'm not doing anything"...

Also, any pics of the puff and what size is it atm?

Wow, i don't want to be mean, but i've already spotted a few serious problems you'll need to address right away...

First off, unless the tank size is a typo, then you ABSOLUTELY MUST upgrade your tank immediately!!! an MBU should be housed in nothing less than an 800 - 1000Gallon tank by himself once fully grown!!! and if you've had him for over a year and is only at 10inches, it means your poor puffer is most likely stunted... since these guys should grow no less than 1+inch a month for the first year or two till they finally reach a total length of 3 feet long once fully matured...

Also, you should be varying his diet, shrimp alone doesn't provide much nutrition, you should also try feeding de-frosted Mussels, Clams, Scallops, Squid and stuff like that which preferably have been defrosted in fish vitamin water...

Any way, i seriously advise you also check out The Puffer Forum for additional advice and help, since there maybe more that meets the eye... also if that other fish in the tank is annoying/harassing you puff, i would get rid of him asap before he stresses out the puff any more...

Any updates on how your fish is doing?
