I found my Senagalus like this yesterday with a red mark on his underside & was a little slugish . I did a 20% WC & cleaned out my ehiem external (left the internal alone) & removed some wood from the tank

This is him today as you can see he look's much worse . Has anyone had this problem ? Any advice please i'm pretty worried now .

He is in a 5 foot community sand tank , no big boy's in there the biggest thing's are Synodontis & Suncat's . I have ran out of test strip's so can tell you the perameter's . I am feeding him catfish pellet's ,earthworm's & prawn's the only change is bloodworm pellet's that i recently bought

Wow that sucks... I'd say bump up the temp and add some salt for now (if you haven't already). Hopefully someone can ID the problem for you

Bacterial infection, look for medications at your LFS that treat bacterial infections. Move fast or your bichir will die.

:iagree:

also add salt to stop it from spreading, if you can quarantine him so you don't disturb the other fish as you treat him.

Well i'm sad to say when i got home yesterday i found my Poly dead , i'm gutted to say the least . I'd still like to know what killed him though incase it was something i could have prevented or treated differently . Do you guy's think it was a bruise with internal injuries or a bacterial infection ? He was only ill for 2 day's & then died ,could a bacterial infection kill him that fast ?

It's likely both. It got an injury from squeezing into a tight spot, or trying to turn around in a spot that was too small, which got infected.

Bacterial infections do kill quickly which is why I told you to get the meds as fast as possible.

Thank's for the advice & kind comment's guys , i feel cr*ppy maybe if i'd of acted quicker with the salt & antibacterial he might of made it . Just wish i had a PC & internet at home with my fish .
