can any one help with my snakehead.
ok i done a water change last week and i noticed it was abit cloudy so i thought id leave it for a day to see if my filter would sort it out but it got worse then my snakehead seemed to be twitching his head alot so i tested the water and the ph was way out done another water change rite away cleaned the filter and the water is back to normal but my snakehead is still twitching his head the other night it was bad on the point of shakeing his head fast and banging him self.

its not as bad now but he is still doing it.he is eatin ok and moves about ok
any one who knows what is wrong would be a big help.

would that be caused by the water going off?also iv just noticed he is struggling to come up for air and you can see him really tryin to get to the top.

do you use conditioned aged water? i think some species are quite sensative to water parameter fluctuations when during water changes?

also, are you feeding live foods? by this, i mean live feeder fish (goldfish, minnows, shiners, etc.?)... will yours take frozen fish??... (frozen smelt, white baitfish, etc.). i say this just to eliminate the possibility of bringing in parasites, flukes, etc.

you mentioned that you cleaned your filter.. How did you clean it? Don't clean your filter media with regular tap water, as the cholorine kills all the benficial bacteria in the filter media. Whenever i want to clean my filter i do it when i'm doing a water change and save a big ol bucket of tank water to clean the media in.. Just soak it and squeeeeeeze, shake, rattle, just to get the poop and nastiness out.

If you did clean your filter media with tap water the cloudiness yo'ure seeing in your tank is most probably a bacteria bloom, at some stress zyme to speed up the benefical bacteria growth.. Hope this helps..

Hi ...filter was cleaned using a bucket of tank water i took out, and have never used tap water to clean filter media etc

We feed snakehad on frozen (but defrosted :D ) mussels etc and have never fed any of our fish live food. I was told it could be a case of gill flukes but apart from a twitch ov his head there are no other symptoms to match gill flukes

thanx jelly.....yea we understand snakeheads dont like big water changes we dont do big changes because ov this reason. Checked water sats last nite and ph is spot on so guess i didnt read it properly but the missus did it while checking other tanks last night...........also sounds like similar movements of the head.......I guess it could be something as simple as that, his body conditions and physical appearence is tip top, no scratches or scrapes, no torn fins etc .....thanks for your comment , being in tank with a TSN guess he could be showing 'whos boss'
