Problem with tail

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How long has the ray been in the tank/how big is ray? If the ray was added fairly recently I would suspect the other fish. Rays are for the most part passive fish and can easily be picked on by other fish. I would add some salt to the tank to aid with healing. Also weekly water changes at least.

looks like it could be the beginnings of tail rot to me. or possibly a tank mate chewing on it.

Its been in the tank for about 9 months, and with the Geophagus for about half a year. The ray has grown a lot and I think it got too crowed due to the piece of wood I got. I've removed it now and will add salt.

Thanks

Looks like it's getting bitten. I haven't had a ray rub it's tail on something before. The only other thing I can think of is if the ray goes up and down the side of the glass alot and lands on it's tail.

id take the wood out. see if that helps since u think it might be the cause. then i would watch very carefully the tank mates to see if there doing anything. sometimes a tank mate will be fine with rays but things can change. keep ur water clean, keep up on water changes an keep the the temp bumped up a bit. if it doesnt seem to get any better i would try and maybe separate the tank mates. just try one thing after the other an try an pin point what might be the cause.
